Checklist
When severe weather strikes, we’re here for you
From strong storms to tornadoes, high winds and more, North Carolinians are frequently exposed to severe weather events – and sometimes without warning.
We work year-round to trim trees and vegetation along power line corridors that could cause outages and hinder restoration efforts after an event. This proactive effort helps prevent some outages and allows for speedier restoration when outages do occur.
Because we are local, our crews can begin restoration efforts as soon as conditions are safe, working diligently to turn the lights back on for all members as quickly as possible.

Be prepared for winter conditions
Winter weather can be beautiful, but it can also lead to dangerous conditions and power outages.
Ice and heavy snow can weigh down limbs and cause trees to fall. When branches come into contact with power lines, it can cause outages and damage to electric infrastructure that must be repaired.
Cooperatives follow detailed plans to keep trees clear from power equipment, and our crews are ready to respond when outages occur.
When a storm hits, stay home if roads are icy. If you must go out during winter weather, drive cautiously, and move over and slow down if you see workers on the side of the road. Download the checklist below to make sure you and your family are prepared for winter weather.
Strong storms meet a stronger cooperative network
The hazardous effects of hurricanes go beyond storm surge. These large storms also bring strong winds and soaking rains that can damage electric infrastructure and cause power outages.
Electric cooperatives are working long before any hurricane is on the horizon to ensure outages and restoration times are minimized. Should a hurricane become an imminent threat to our community, our crews stand ready to restore any outages as soon as conditions are safe. We also count on our wide network of crews from cooperatives across the state and region, who are ready to spring into action to bring the lights back on faster.

Staying safe after a flood
Storm conditions can lead to flooding, which can not only damage communities and roads, but also cause power outages.
Our crews are trained to restore outages safely following a flood once conditions allow. Remember to never go near a power line that is sagging or fallen. Do not touch water, or anything in contact with water, if a downed power line is nearby. Never drive on flooded roads.
